The Applegate Valley lies at the base of the Siskiyou Mountains, stretching south of Grants Pass and west of Medford, Oregon. It is separated from the greater Rogue River Valley by a mountain range including Mt. Isabelle, Big Blue Mountain, Grants Pass Peak and Bald Mountain. Its major through road is the Jacksonville Highway (State Highway 238), with roads extending north and south along its length, begging to be explored!
This beautiful valley supports habitats including lush farmland and productive vineyards, rolling oak savanah, open ponderosa pine woods, and diverse Douglas fir forests. There are hundreds of miles of trails leading to amazing vistas and surreal locations. The Applegate Lake, the Applegate River and it's tributaries offer numerous camping and fishing opportunities. Squaw Lakes, Greyback Mountain, Mt Isabelle and many other destinations offer a challenge to the more adventurous. For those who enjoy the view from the sky, Wood Rat Mountain, located just outside of Ruch, is home to the world-famous Rat Race and provides one the best paragliding opportunities in the world! The area is studded with the valley's award-winning vineyards and wineries, as well as bed & breakfasts, fine dining and down-home cooking restaurants, farms and gardens, and quaint stores and shops awaiting your visit.
